Don't Forget to Change Your Oil!

We all know that oil needs to be changed every so often. However, not everybody knows when, and not everybody knows why. In order to understand why oil changes are important, you need to know what oil does in the first place. As your engine runs, all the moving pieces produce both friction and heat. If left alone, this would cause parts to quickly break down. Nobody wants that, and that's where the oil comes into play.

Oil lubricates all the moving parts in your engine, reducing friction and carrying away heat. While an engine without oil quickly overheats and breaks down, an engine with oil runs like... well, like a well-oiled machine. Of course, that heat has to go somewhere. Instead of breaking down your engine, the heat starts to break down the oil instead. After a while, the oil starts to do its job less and less effectively. If you leave it alone for too long, it can even start to form a black sludge, and clog up your engine. It is important to change your oil before that happens.

It can vary based on what you drive and how you drive it, but a general rule of thumb is to have your oil changed every six months, or every 5,000 miles—whichever comes first. If it's about that time again, or if you can't even remember the last time you had an oil change, schedule an appointment with our service center today. We can't wait to help you out.
