What Factors Determine My Vehicle's Worth
Kelley Blue Book (KBB) is a third-party valuation expert. They are industry leaders who use a proprietary algorithm to calculate new and used vehicle values in our area. Here are some of the most important features that have a lot of weight in determining your vehicle's value:
- Year: The age of the vehicle carries a lot of weight in the calculation.
- Make and Model: Certain vehicle brands and types of vehicles have inherently greater value. For example, an SUV or truck is typically more valuable than a small sedan.
- Mileage: The lower the number of miles on the odometer, the higher the vehicle's worth.
- Condition: Kelley Blue Book typically measures vehicle condition by the categories:
- Excellent: Like new in excellent mechanical condition with no paint touchups or repairs needed (less than five percent of used vehicles fall in this category)
- Very Good: Minor cosmetic defects but excellent mechanical condition, and some minor paint touchups or bodywork may be needed
- Good: Most used vehicles fall in this category with normal wear and tear but free of major mechanical issues
- Fair: Cosmetic defects that require repair, might need mechanical repairs, and rust may be present
